Project Description

Altoona, IA – Visit Their Website

The first phase of the Adventure Bay Waterpark at this venerable amusement park near Des Moines was opened in 2008 and consisted of a multilevel play structure with several slides, sprayers, and other water features including a giant tipping bucket at the top of the structure. Phase 2 consisted of a complete expansion that included a 1,500 ft. slow river, 6,000 sq. ft. pool with swim-up bar, and splash pools for two slide complexes. Master planning services included proper location of the slide complexes and aquatics elements with regard to setback and other site constraints, patron flow, and owner desires. The owners wanted the longest river at a waterpark in the state of Iowa, which made planning a challenge. The expansion opened in May 2010. Phase 3 is consists of a 25,000 sq. ft. wave pool (again, the largest in Iowa), a 7,000 kids pool with several water play features and a swim up bar (for non-alcoholic beverages), and seven support buildings. This phase is set to open for the 2012 season.

WET Engineering handled complete civil design for the interior of the park as well as design of the hydraulic and water treatment systems for the aquatics components and permitting services through the Iowa Department of Health and the City of Altoona.

Matt Boyd

Director of Operations, Whale’s Tale Waterpark

We were looking to install ProSlide's very first RideHouse and needed an engineer who could design a drainage and supply water plan as well as a mechanical room. We heard about the problems other parks had with similar structures, and couldn't be happier about our choice to go with WET Engineering. They were there for support during the build process and the system works without a flaw.
